Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

The Psalmist wrote, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” But have you ever stopped to think what that means for you?

People often don’t feel wonderful, but they are often fearful; perhaps when you take a close look at yourself it reveals the insecurities and flaws that overwhelm you.

If that is how you see yourself, you’re not seeing yourself as a result of God’s divine creation. When we discover the truth that we are God’s unique design, it is awe-inspiring. God has fearfully and wonderfully made you, setting you and everyone who has ever lived or will live, apart, as the unsurpassed, clearest reflection of His creativity.

  fearfully and wonderfully made

In Genesis 1:27, “God created man in his own image…male and female he created them.” We often mistakenly think this was simply in terms of a physical appearance, but God transcends the physical world, we are all created his image, it is not about how we feel, but the reality of God’s creation.

When you feel yourself to be unremarkable or ordinary – think of this; from the creation of the world how many decisions, actions and relationships led to the moment of your birth? In the sight of God, you are special and wonderful, and He has set eternity in your heart (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Then you can join the Psalmist and say, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made” – Psalm 139:14
