The Railway Mission is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev’d Mags Farrow as a new Railway Mission Chaplain, bringing with her more than 13 years of ordained ministry and extensive experience in chaplaincy, pastoral care, education, and community leadership.
Rev’d Farrow is an accredited minister in good standing with the Baptist Union of Great Britain, a status she has held since 2011. Her appointment reflects a long-standing commitment to serving people with compassion, wisdom, and faith, especially in challenging and emotionally demanding environments.
Most recently, Rev’d Farrow served as Chaplain at HMP Ashfield, where she supported officers, staff, and prisoners of all faiths and none. Her work included providing pastoral care following major incidents and self-inflicted deaths, supporting Family Liaison Officers after deaths in custody, leading memorials and funerals, and helping oversee staff welfare and bereavement support. This experience has given her a deep understanding of trauma, grief, and the importance of calm and compassionate presence in times of crisis.

Alongside this, Rev’d Farrow has significant experience in educational chaplaincy, having spent seven years supporting staff, children, and families within an academy setting. Her work there included pastoral care, welfare and wellbeing support, staff training, and one-to-one pastoral supervision.
Her wider ministry experience also includes serving as Co-Senior Minister of a Baptist church in Huddersfield, Associate Minister of a Baptist church in North Bristol, and Deacon and Trustee of a Baptist church in South Bristol. Across these roles, she has led worship, taught in congregational and small-group settings, developed church and community ministries, and contributed to strategic leadership and governance.
Rev’d Farrow holds a BA (Hons) in Theology from the University of Birmingham and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Leeds, and is also a Qualified Teacher. In 2020, she was awarded a Practitioner Status Diploma in Trauma and Mental Health Informed Schools and Communities, further strengthening her ability to support people affected by distress, loss, and trauma.
Describing her ministry as that of a “pastoral evangelist”, Rev’d Farrow is passionate about demonstrating the love of Christ through pastoral care and relationships. She is known for being a clear communicator who relates naturally to others and is often regarded as bringing a calm, steadying presence, especially in difficult circumstances.
Following her family’s relocation to South Wales in September 2025, Rev’d Farrow said she was keen to continue her Christian service within chaplaincy and felt called to the Railway Mission’s ministry of presence, support, and care.
In her new role, she will support people across the railway community, including those affected by trauma, bereavement, and critical incidents, offering compassionate pastoral care to all, regardless of background or belief.
