A Christian Charity, Railway Mission has been serving the railway industry since 1881. Our purpose is 'To propagate the Christian Gospel and preserve and protect mental and physical health primarily amongst railway and transport staff and also members of the public affected by railway operations, by all appropriate means.'

We offer independent, confidential and impartial pastoral care to the railway community and members of the public affected by rail operations. We have a key role in the pastoral care of railway people, with unique and unparalleled opportunities to influence the lives of individuals for good.

At the end of March 2022, we employed 10 full-time, 8 part-time and 1 volunteer chaplains spread across England, Scotland and Wales. Our operating costs were some £528k p.a. and our income was some £526k p.a. 77% of that income came from the railway industry.

The role of a Trustee is a voluntary, unpaid, non-executive appointment and each of our Trustees needs to be a Christian who agrees with the Statement of Faith on our website. The role requires a commitment of approximately one day per month, with the capacity to flex upwards should the need arise.
